About

Hi I’m Fraser

Fraser Embrey — self-portrait

A documentary photographer based in Brighton who shoots events the way you remember them. The genuine smiles, the laughter, real emotions and moments.

Most event photography is evidence: proof the room was decorated, proof people attended. I’m after what it felt like to be there. That means working from inside the night, staying patient, and not asking anyone to hold a moment still for me.

The habit comes from street photography, which I have been doing for over a decade now. It keeps my eye sharp and pushes me to improve my work, and it’s why the event work looks the way it does.

When I’m not photographing, I’m usually sailing which turns out to be good training for events too: develop a strong awareness, be in the right place, and be ready for the right moment.

Based in Brighton, working regularly across Sussex and up to London — and happy to travel further for the right event.

How I work

Nothing posed

The second people arrange themselves for a camera, the photograph loses some reality. I’d rather wait for the real thing.

Low footprint

I can stay out of the way.

Quick to deliver

Event photos are worth most while people are still talking about the event.

Personal work

The street and sailing work lives in my portfolio.
